Measures to strengthen the Jewish cooperatives in Poland were adopted yesterday at the end of a seven-day conference between Bernard Kahn, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee; Louis Oungre, European director of the Jewish Colonization Association, the directors of the American Joint Reconstruction Foundation, representatives of the Jewish cooperatives in Poland and of the management of the Bank de la Spoldzielni. The latter is to participate in the plan for bolstering the cooperatives.
Both Mr. Kahn and Mr. Oungre, suggested that the council of the American Joint Reconstruction Foundation, an organization in which the Joint and the Jewish Colonization Association share, should allot $250,000 for new cooperative credits. Because the cooperative bank through its own efforts overcame difficulties the Foundation agreed to participate financially in the further development of the bank, anticipating an intensification of the cooperative movement among Polish Jewry. Consultations with the Roumanian representative will continue regarding the strengthening of the cooperative movement there.
