Representatives of the World Jewish Congress and the Joint Distribution Committee have completed a series of talks with representatives of Britain and the United States in Austria and with members of the Austrian Cabinet on the creation of a Jewish heiress property fund, it was learned here today.
The conversations centered about a proposal made by world Jewish organizations 18 month ago, which suggested the introduction in the Austrian Parliament of a bill providing for the settlement of heiress property claims – most of which pertain to property owned by Jews. The plan was submitted jointly by the W.J.C., the J.D.C. and the American Jewish Committee, with the approval of the Vienna Jewish community. The response from the State Department was favorable. The Austrian Government, however, failed to react to it. New, the Ministry of Finance has ordered that the plan be studied carefully, and there is reason to believe that the results of the study will be satisfactory.
