Talks between West Germany and Austria on a West German contribution to a fund for payment of restitution to Austrian victims of the Nazi period in Austria progressed favorably, Austrian negotiators returning from Bonn reported today.
The exact phrasing of the text of an agreement for such a contribution has been prepared and negotiations will be resumed Monday when a West German delegation of 12 experts of various Bonn Ministries comes to Vienna,
Israel demanded today that the Government of Austria act promptly to provide “prompt and adequate compensation” for Jewish victims of nazism in Austria “in all cases of reparable damage.” The demand was contained in a note handed to the Austrian Ambassador in Jerusalem by Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel’s Foreign Minister. The note protested Austria’s “procrastination” in paying restitution to the Jewish victims.)
