The Legislative Assembly voted at yesterday’s meeting upon a subvention of 50,000 franes for the Jewish schools of Tangier, for the second term of 1928. The subvention. which was voted for by eleven out of twenty-one votes, was strongly supported by M. Sanz, chief delegate of Spain, against Colonel Ellis, chief delegate for Great Britain, who feared a deficit in the Tangier budget.
M. Sanz urged that the grant was a question of dignity for the Tangier zone.
The Spanish press comments favorably on the decision, which enables the Jewish Communal Council to avert the dismissal of the teachers at the Jewish schools for reasons of economy.
