A volunteer group of 25 consisting mainly of teachers and institutional workers was formed at Homel to proceed to Bureya, Siberia, in accordance with the plan of the Soviet Government to create a Jewish settlement there.
The group applied to the Comnet, the governmental department for settling Jews on the land for establishing a commune there. The group also asked for facilities to organize a network of Yiddish schools.
