The municipal government announced today that only street meetings and public demonstrations have been forbidden. Meetings and conferences held in private halls will not be interfered with, city officials declared. Public demonstrations have been forbidden. it was explained. because of the fear of street clashes between the Revisionist and Laborite factions in Palestine.
A report received from Paris yesterday stated that the municipality of Tel Aviv had forbidden a conference of the National Workers’ Union, a new Revisionist Zionist organization. The conference was to have been held during Passover. Vladimir Jabotinsky, leader of the Revisionists, sent an energetic protest to Mayor Meyer Dizengoff of Tel Aviv.
The prohibition of public demonstrations in Tel Aviv is to be in effect for two months. In the meantime a special committee was appointed by the municipality to negotiate with the various political groups in order to avoid all possible clashes between the contending groups. Other special measures were taken in order to assure a peaceful Passover. An appeal was also issued asking the population of the city to keep cool.
