The election campaigns for the November 15 municipal ballotting here opened today with Mayor Israel Rokach and Dr. Peretz Bernstein addressing a large public gathering on behalf of the General Zionists and Menahem Beigin attracting a huge audience at a Herut Party rally.
The various parties have already listed their candidates. Levi Eshkol and Eliezer Peri top the Histadrut lineup, Mayor Rokach and Dr. Frey head the General Zionists, Moshe Sreh leads the Mapam list, and Dr. Foerder heads the Progressives. In addition, Dr. Moshe Cohen, now Revisionist municipal councillor, is the top Herut candidate, Saadia Shoshani leads the landlord’s list and Easther Vilenska is the top Communist candidate.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Tel Aviv Chief Rabbi I.L. Unterman’s efforts to from a united religious front had failed and each faction in the Orthodox movement would present a separate slate of candidates.
