The municipality of Tel Aviv has raised a storm here by announcing it would permit “minibuses” to operate in this city on Saturdays. As a reprisal against permitting “minibuses” here, the Bus Cooperative, which has enjoyed a monopoly on bus transport here, is threatening to operate public transportation in Tel Aviv on Saturdays.
Angered by that announcement, the Religious Council announced today it would study the possibility of starting its own, competing bus company, after which it would appeal to religious riders in this area to boycott the Cooperative. The principal aim of both the Religious Council and the Bus Cooperative is to keep the “minibuses” off the streets.
