A prayer memorializing the late Pope John XXIII was recited yesterday during Yom Kippur Yizlor services at Temple Emanu-El here, a Reform synagogue. Pope John’s name was included among others commemorated by the congregation as one who “stood for the finest ideals religion has to offer.”
During the Yom Kippur services, the congregants of Temple Emanu-El also pledged contributions to a fund to help rebuild the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church at Birmingham, Ala, That is the church that was bombed two weeks ago, causing the death of four Negro girls attending Sunday school.
