Security authorities disclosed today that 40 Arabs belonging to the so-called Palestine Liberation Army were arrested during the nights of Jan. 11 and 12, in the Gaza Strip, among them a number of officers smuggled into the region from Jordan. Questioning of the arrested men led to the discovery of a large cache of arms, the authorities said.
In Gaza yesterday, Israeli army sappers blew up several buildings presumed to have sheltered Arab terrorists who tossed a hand grenade into a jeep carrying two Israeli soldiers. Neither of the soldiers were reported injured.
A curfew was imposed on several villages in northern Sinai last night after the driver of an oil truck was seriously injured when the vehicle struck a mine east of El Arish. The man was taken to El Arish airport and flown to a hospital in Israel.
