Israeli navy units shelled the naval operations headquarters of Arab terrorist groups today near the Rashidiyeh Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon near the port of Tyre, according to the Israeli army spokesman. According to Arab reports, four Israeli missile ships took part in the attack, but the army spokesman gave no details on the number of Israeli vessels taking part in the attack. All ships returned safely to base.
The spokesman said it was from the Rashidiyeh anchorage that an Arab terrorist dinghy, which was attacked and sunk by an Israeli patrol boat Friday night, had set sail for Israel. The anchorage is about 10 miles north of Rosh Hanigra, the Israeli-Lebanese border point on the Mediterranean.
Arab radio stations said the Israeli ships were aided by Israeli air force planes but the Israeli spokesman did not mention any air force participation. The Arabs also claimed they fired at the Israeli ships with guns and missiles but did not claim any hits.
