The release of pressurized air at more than 600 miles an hour marked the formal dedication this week-end of the Haifa Technion aeronautical laboratories in the presence of Charles Bender of Texas, who presented the technical school with the supersonic wind tunnel, which has a top wind speed of 2,800 miles per hour. Mr. Bender, who appeared for the ceremony in a colorful cowboy costume, described his many years of interest in the Haifa Institute of Technology.
In a special message to the donor, Prime Minister David Ben Gurion lauder Mr. Bender’s generosity and aid to Israel science. “I consider the training of scientists and technicians as one of Israel’s most vital needs,” he said. “Your contribution in widening the scope of Technion’s research activities is of inestimable benefit for current and future technological development in Israel.”
