That the Communist fraction in the Prussian Diet voted for the law calling for the confiscation of the property of East European Jews who entered Germany after August 1, 1914, was confirmed to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency yesterday by Wilhelm Kaspar, vice-chairman of the Communist fraction in the Diet and Wilhelm Koenen, leader of the Communist fraction.
The statement by the Communist Diet representatives contradicts the denials issued by the Communist organ in Berlin, “Rote Fahn,” and by the Communist organ in New York, “The Freiheit.”
The Communist fraction leaders denied that they had any prejudice against the Jews. They stated that the Communists voted for the measure after their amendment had been defeated, because the tax proposals contained therein were far-reaching in their effect against capitalism.
In this fashion, they stated, they planned to expose the Nazi demagogy and embarrass the government of Chancellor von Papen.
