The added value tax, imposed in Israel earlier this year and on the West Bank on Dec. 1 has been the pretext for continuing demonstrations by high school youths and shut-downs by local merchants in the Judaea and Samaria regions. The youngsters have been boycotting classes for several days. They congregate in the center of towns or in the old section set up road blocks, burn tires and stone Israeli vehicles. A curfew clamped on Nablus Saturday where the incidents were most serious. was lifted late in the day but was re-imposed Sunday when demonstrators got out of hand.
