The Alfred W. Fleisher Synagogue, in the Eastern State Penitentiary, was dedicated and a memorial tablet was unveiled in the presence of a number of city and state officials and twenty convicts.
The synagogue was redecorated and the tablet erected by the Jewish inmates of the penal institution in memory of the man who served as president of the board of trustees of the penitentiary for more than five years until his death on December 25, 1928.
Following brief services, conducted by Rev. Leon H. Elmaleh, rabbi emeritus of Congregation Mikveh Israel. the synagoue was presented to the trustees by Convict G-3665. The tablet was unveiled by Mrs. Fleisher, who attended the ceremonies with other members of her family.
