The American Consul in Jerusalem, Mr. Knabenshue, paid a visit today to Sir John Chancellor, the High Commissioner of Palestine, in connection with the tense situation now prevailing throughout the country.
It is understood that the High Commissioner reassured the American Consul that the Palestine Government is prepared to deal with any kind of trouble in the country. The High Commissioner, however, emphasized that no trouble is to be expected.
The visit which the American Consul paid to the High Commissioner followed after a call made by a Jewish delegation at the American Consulate in Jerusalem. The delegation consisted of the three rabbis Lowenstein, Kaufman, and Tatenbaum. The delegation expressed the anxiety prevailing now among the aged American Jews of Meah Shearim, the old Jewish quarter of Jerusalem, and requested from the American Consul that the American Government should take necessary action in the event of anti-Jeiwish disturbances in Palestine.
In view of the created situation, the American Consulate in Palestine is now keeping the State Department in Washington informed daily about the developments throughout the country.
