The American Israel Public Affairs Committee dropped its long-standing opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state. During the first day of its annual policy conference in Washington, the pro-Israel lobby instead adopted a position Sunday opposing a unilateral declaration of statehood. At the same time, the group endorsed a “political solution” that would “permit the exercise of Palestinian self-government while excluding those powers that would endanger the security of Israel.”
