The appointment of Professor Theodor Innitzer, former rector of the University of Vienna, as Archbishop is arousing satisfaction in Jewish circles where he is well known for his sympathetic stand toward the Jews.
During his tenure as dean of the Unversity of Vienna, Professor Innitzer was energetic in his suppression of anti-Semitic disturbances. He was insistent upon the observance of the equality rights of the Jews when he served as Minister of Education.
The new Archbishop is a member of the Pro-Palestine Committee in Austria. He has delivered several lectures on Jewish rehabilitative work in Palestine before Catholic audiences.
