— The Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheba has named former military intelligence director Maj. Gen. (Res.) Shlomo Gazit as its new president to succeed Yosef Tekoah who was named university chancellor for the coming year. Tekoah had come in for considerable criticism for his political involvement as chairman of the Soviet Immigrants Association and for his leadership of absorption center strikes against the Jewish Agency and government last year.
