The Canadian government and the government of Poland have signed an agreement for the payment by Poland of lump sums of $1,225 million to Canadian citizens for property nationalized or otherwise expropriated, according to Saul Hayes, executive vice-president of the Jewish Congress. This agreement is the culmination of a concerted effort by the CJC which, for a number of years, has urged the Canadian government to pursue compensation claims by Canadian citizens. Negotiations between the two governments began in Warsaw in Oct. 1968 and subsequent discussions were conducted in Ottawa. The agreement provides for payment in seven equal annual installments.
