The clearest proof that all the fine words about religious liberty in the United States are not mere words would be the nomination of Governor Smith of New York for President, Rabbi David Philipson of the Rockdale Temple, Cincinnati, declared in his sermon Sunday.
“No man, be he Catholic. Protestant or Jew, should be discriminated against from a political standpoint. It is my hope that Governor Smith may be nominated, if for no other reason than to demonstrate that in this country a man’s religious opinion does not make him ineligible to nomination to the highest office in the land,” Rabbi Philipson said.
