The Colonial Office assumes, it was declared officially, that the Palestine government has now the situation well in hand. Prime Minister MacDonald keeps in constant touch with the Colonial Office and is being informed on every development in Palestine. Reinforcements from Malta are expected to reach Palestine Tuesday. It is believed that the prompt despatch of troops will be sufficient to prevent further outbreaks.
Naval and military reinforcements continue to be rushed to Palestine. Three more air craft left full speed for Jerusalem. Many extra aeroplanes and pilots are on board the destroyers “Wanderer” and “Veteran,” both warships of 1,325 tons with a speed of 34 knots an hour. The “Courageous,” another ship, was reported to have sailed.
It is further officially stated from Cairo that the strength of the British troops sent to Palestine from Egypt will by Tuesday amount to two battalions, which, with the squadron of armored cars and a detachment of sappers and signallers will be able to maintain order. The first detachment of infantry arrived by aeroplane, others by train.
