The conflicting attitude of the new Roumanian cabinet toward the Jewish question was illustrated by the decision of the military authorities in Bucharest to permit the Jewish Cultural League to recommence activities here. The League was closed last November by an order of the previous government.
At the same time, the school authorities of Bukowina have prohibited the use of Hebrew and Yiddish as the languages of instruction in the Jewish schools, although this is a violation of the educational law of 1922, according to which the teaching of certain subjects in Yiddish and Hebrew is permitted. Representations to the central government in Bucharest will be made by the Jewish community of Bukowina.
