The controversial governor of a region in southern Russia said the furor over recent anti-Semitic remarks by a Communist politician has been blown out of proportion. Nikolai Kondratenko, who himself has made several anti-Semitic comments about rival politicians, said the criticism of Gen. Albert Makashov shows a double standard because anti-Russian sentiment goes unpunished.
