The crime rate in Israel dropped by 1.5 percent during the first four months of 2002 compared to the same period last year. According to figures submitted by Israel’s police commissioner to Public Security Minister Uzi Landau, the number of murders fell from 62 to 53. The number of reported rapes, however, rose by 24 percent.
