The decision by Muslim religious authorities in Jerusalem to close the gates of the Temple Mount to tourists represents a violation of the rules governing the administration of holy sites in Jerusalem, Israeli police said. The Waqf made the move after Israeli police arrested two Palestinians near the entrance to the Temple Mount because they refused an identity check. The sides have long argued over who has control over security at the site.
