The Democratic Party increased its support for two Jewish challengers in U.S. House races.

Rabbi Dennis Shulman in New Jersey and Josh Segall in Alabama, both running against three-term incumbent Republicans, were upgraded this week from “emerging races” to “Red to Blue” by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The designation means the candidates will receive additional financial, strategic and communications support in the final three weeks of their campaigns. It also sends a signal to potential donors that their races are competitive.

“Our grassroots campaign for change has been growing so rapidly in Northern New Jersey, and we welcome the additional support,” Shulman, who is blind, said in a statement released by his campaign. He is facing Rep. Scott Garrett.

Segall, who is facing Rep. Mike Rogers, told the Anniston Star newspaper that the upgrade is “an acknowledgement of a lot of work on our part.”
