The E.U.’s senior foreign policy official blasted Israel for boycotting foreign diplomats who meet with Yasser Arafat. Javier Solana told reporters in Rome on Tuesday that Israel’s refusal to meet with the Palestinian Authority president is “its own prerogative, but they have to know that these are not the rules of diplomacy.” Solana was particularly critical of Israel’s boycott of the E.U.’s special emissary to the Middle East, Marc Otte, who has been denied contact with Israeli officials since he met with Arafat last month.
