The family of Mordechai Vanunu called for his release from an Israeli prison, saying the decision to allow him to join the general prison population after being held for 12 years in solitary confinement proved that he was no longer a security threat. Vanunu is serving an 18-year sentence for disclosing Israel’s nuclear weapons capabilities to The Times of London. Under new conditions approved by the Justice Ministry, Vanunu’s mail and phone calls will still be monitored.
