The first Israeli film to be chosen for competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 25 years was shot in Jerusalem’s fervently Orthodox enclave, Mea Shearim. “Kadosh,” which means “holy,” attacks the Orthodox community and its treatment of women. The film’s director, Amos Gitai, said he made the film to force Israelis to “decide what kind of country we will be.”
