Miss Henrietta Szold, “Mother in Israel”, the only woman member of the Zionist Executive and the founder of the American women’s Zionist Organisation Hadassah, was this evening elected by the Vaad Leumi as a member of its Administration, filling one of the places originally reserved for the Labour Party, which is entitled to three of the six seats on the Administration.
The Labour Party yielded the seat to Miss Szold, in view of the intention to transfer the Departments of Education and Health hither to conducted by the Palestine Zionist Executive, to the organs of Palestine Jewry itself, so that Miss Szold, who has been in charge of them, would continue to conduct them if she accepts the seat on the Vaad Leumi Administration.
