The German Sports Association has notified the committee supervising the international fencing competition due to begin here that it is opposed to the participation of two Germans because they are Jews. The two are Helene Meyer, international women’s fencing champion a few years ago, who was roundly praised by the Nazi press at the time she won the championship, and Erwin Cazimir , one of the greatest German fencers in many years.
The Nazi effort to prevent Jewish athletes from entering competitions abroad has created a painful impression in international sporting circles.
