The Government of Argentine decreed today a day of national mourning for Israel’s President Ben-Zvi and the Argentine flag was lowered to half-mast on all public buildings and all military naval and Air Force establishments.
Dr. Jose Maria Guido, the President of Argentina, sent a message to Acting President Kaddush Luz, saying: “I express to Your Excellency the deep condolences of the Argentine Government and people over the death of President Ben-Zvi whose passing marks a severe loss for a friendly country.”
The passing of Israel’s President evoked general mourning among Argentine Jews. The Buenos Aires Kehilla held an emergency session last night at which it was decided to suspend classes of all Jewish schools during the funeral today. Resolutions of condolence were adopted by the Kehilla and by other Jewish and Zionist bodies.
