The head of an unofficial Soviet good-will delegation likened the “oppression methods” of Israel to those of Nazi Germany when he spoke to reporters after landing at Ben Gurion Airport several days ago. Karen Khachaturov, deputy chairman of Novosti, the Soviet foreign news agency, said that while the USSR supported the evacuation of all foreign troops from Lebanon, Lebanon could not engage in peace talks with Israel under a state of military occupation. “It would be like us negotiating with Hitler when he was close to Moscow,” he said. The delegation Khachaturov heads was invited here by the Israel-Soviet Friendship Movement which is affiliated with Israel’s pro-Moscow Rakah Communist Party. The occasion is the 38th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany.
