The House Immigration Sub-Committee today com##ted action on a bill to admit 200,000 displaced persons to the United States during #### years, beginning July 1 of this year. Rep. Frank Fellows of Maine, Sub-Committee chairman, said he would introduce the bill in the House some day this week–as soon several committee amendments are written into the measure. The full Judiciary committee is expected to vote on the bill next Tuesday.
The new bill provides that DP’s be accepted for admission to the U.S. on the La of the percentage of each nationality under the care of the International Re?gee Organization. Under this provision, somewhere between 50,000 to 55,000 of ###ese admitted would be Jewish DP’s.
About 15,000 of the 200,000 quota numbers would be used to legalise the status ## refugees who came to the United States on temporary visas and who are unable to ## turn home for fear of religious or political persecution. Those who became DP’s fore April 21, 1947, are eligible for admission under terms of the bill. Orphans ##ber 21 are to be admitted without regard to quotas.
