The Illinois state legislature passed legislation that would provide protections against government interference with the free practice of religion. The bill, which the governor is expected to sign, makes Illinois the second state, after Florida, to pass a Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Since the U.S. Surpeme Court struck down federal legislation last year, RFRA proponents have turned to the states for legislative action.
