The Israel-based Wolf Foundation named a German and a Hungarian-American as the 1998 winners of the Wolf Prize in Chemistry. Professors Gerhard Ertl, of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, and Gabor Somorjai, of the University of California at Berkeley, will share the $100,000 prize for their work in studying chemical reactions used in many industrial processes and in fighting pollution.
