The Israeli folk song “Jerusalem of Gold” was inspired by a Basque lullaby, according to its late composer’s letters. Naomi Shemer, who died in June 2004, confessed to her lyricist that she copied the melody for the song, which became the unofficial anthem of the 1967 Six-Day War, Ha’aretz reported Thursday.
