The Jewish community of Mukden has grown during the last few years from 30 to 100 families. Emigrants from Russia who arrived here were aided by the local community which also grants assistance to unemployed.
Intending immigrants to North China are warned of poor conditions there, according to a report received by the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society in New York from its Harbin Bureau. Russian Jews who have been declassed are arriving at Harbin. The Hias bureau there in its attempt to aid the emigrants is in touch with Jewish communities in Shaughai. Mukden, Tsten-Tsien and other Chinese cities where some of the emigrants are directed. The Shanghai Jewish community has established an association to aid emigrants in settling there and at other points, the report declares.
In South China conditions are more favorable but the Jewish settlements are small and prospects are only good for those who know some English and are in possession of funds, states the report.
The process of Chinesization which the Nationalist Chinese Government is conducting causes the exodus of a large number of Europeans and aggrawates the situation in Harbin and surrounding territory. Hitherto the Harbin Hias Burean had to render aid to emigrants in transit but now the immigration into Harbin has increased and the work had to be extended in consequence.
