The Jewish National Fund and American Hadassah are cooperating in a major tree-planting and landscaping program designed to make three Negev development towns into more attractive and residential places. Some 120,000 trees are to be planted under the program in the towns of Sderot, Netivot and Ofakim–all development towns with mainly Oriental populations. JNF does not as a rule operate inside urban areas but it was decided to make an exception in the case of this scheme. Hadassah has undertaken to raise $2,700,000 over three years to pay for the project.
