The Labor Alignment’s Knesset faction was forced to cancel its weekly meeting Monday to prevent a demonstrative walkout by the seven Mapam members. The latter said they would leave if the meeting was attended by Amnon Lin and Yitzhak Peretz, the two Likud defectors who have joined the Labor Party. Mapam has warned that the entry of the hawkish ex-Likud MKs to Labor ranks would tilt the party sharply to the right at the expense of its traditional socialist and liberal outlook. Mapam said that under those conditions it could not continue to participate in the Alignment.
