The last several issues of the “Frimorgen,” Yiddish Riga daily, containing descriptions of the Kovno anti-Jewish excesses, were returned by the Lithuanian postal authorities, as their circulation was prohibited in Lithuania.
U. S. DELEGATION HEARS OF ECONOMIC PLIGHT
The economic plight of the Jewish population in Lithuania was described by representatives of thirty-five Jewish organizations in the country at a conference held here yesterday with the members of the American Jewish delegation visiting here.
Further aid from American Jewry is needed in order to cope with the social economic and cultural problems, it was declared.
JEWISH MONORITIES COUNCIL CONCLUDES SESSIONS
The Executive Committee of the Council on Jewish Minorities concluded its two-day session here today.
The committee heard reports concerning the Jewish situation in various countries and decided to appoint special committees in Paris and New York to deal with the problem of the persecutions in Soviet Russia against the Jewish religion, the Hebrew language and the Zionist movement.
Measures to prevent the spread of anti-Semitism in Greece, particularly in Salonica were also considered. In regard to the situation in Roumania, the committee decided to endeavor to restore unity among the Jewish communities in that country in connection with the newly promulgated law permitting the establishment of separate communities.
Dr. Leo Motzkin was authorized to participate in behalf of the committee in the forthcoming national minorities conference which will take place in Geneva at the end of August.
Dr. Stephen S. Wise announced that the American Jewish Congress will increase its moral and material assistance to the Council on Jewish Minority Rights.
