The leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts said he opposes his church’s move to divest from companies doing business with Israel. The Bishop M. Thomas Shaw, head of the 80,000-member diocese, which includes 194 churches in eastern Massachusetts, prepared the statement for two diocese members involved in planning a January 2006 church trip together with the American Jewish Committee.
