The leading art authority, Frank Rutter, writing in the “Sunday Times,” points out that the world now realizes that Pissarro rather than Manet was the pivot around which the French impressionists revolved. Mr. Rutter says that Pissarro “was a master magician at expressing light and heat in terms of color and in this field he has never been surpassed. This gifted and exquisite artist was never a follower of others but always a leader.”
