The merger of the Council of Jewish Federations, the United Jewish Appeal and the United Israel Appeal became legal Wednesday, after papers were filed with the state of New York. Meanwhile, the governing bodies of the newly formed United Jewish Communities are approving the entity’s organizational structure during the group’s General Assembly in Atlanta. Representatives of all 198 North American federations will begin to formulate UJC’s bylaws at a retreat scheduled for March.
