The National Labor Committee for the Jewish Workers in Palestine has announced that its drive during the past six months netted the sum of $65,000 in cash, and that this year’s campaign was twice as successful as that of the year before. These funds have been transmitted to the General Federation of Jewish Labor in Palestine.
This is a splendid achievement, since the contributions came from working people in small sums. The “third Seder” Dinner, arranged under the auspices of this Committee, proved a remarkable demonstration of the enthusiastic support given to the rehabilitation of Palestine by the laboring masses. Professor Albert Einstein, who graced the occasion as guest of honor, remarked that his heart was with the Jewish masses.
The Jewish working people in America, who are making sacrifices to help the Halutzim in Palestine, are doing their part as rebuilders of Zion.
IN CHINA
Israel’s Messenger, a Jewish periodical published in Shanghai, edited by N. E. B. Ezra, has recently celebrated its thirtieth anniversary. In addition to greetings and felicitations from Jews in various parts of the world, the editor received messages of greeting from General Chiang Kai-shek, president of the Chinese republic; Sun Fo, son of ‘he late Dr. Sun Yat-sen; Dr. C. T. Wang, former Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Wang Chin-wei, present. Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Ezra deserves high praise for the thorough Jewishness of Israel’s Messenger. It is a courageous, enterprising and wide-awake magazine that he is publishing. Israel’s Messenger in far away China is combating anti-Semitism which was introduced there by the White Russians after the revolution. It is also an aggressive and constructive organ of Jewish public opinion, promoting the cause of a Jewish Palestine.
When the “Protocols of the Wise Men of Zion” made their appearance in Shanghai several years ago and it became necessary to disseminate literary material to refute the fabricated “Protocols,” Mr. Ezra immediately brought out a special edition of “The History of A Lie” and used it to good advantage. Mr. Ezra displayed greater enterprise and a finer sense of responsibility than most of the Jewish organizations in the large Jewish communities, which claim to be engaged in defending Jewish rights.
