The New York Branch of the United Synagogue of America and Women’s League, announced the purchase of a four-story building at 523 West 113th Street to serve as a new Students’ House for all Jewish university students in the metropolitan district. The building is being rapidly equipped to serve as a center of Jewish cultural and social activity. Adjoining the Columbia campus, in a row of fraternity houses, the new Students’ House will serve primarily students at Columbia University and at the Jewish Theological Seminary, but its advantages will be available for young people in attendance at City College, New York University and other local institutions.
This students’ House is one of a series of similar buildings which the United Synagogue plans to establish on College campuses throughout the city and the country as well. Another Jewish Students’ House was opened a few weeks ago at the University of Pennsylvania, under the auspices of the Philadelphia Branch of the United Synagogue.
The House will be under the direction of Mrs. Morris Lurie, Chairman of the Students’ House Committee. Mr. Sol Mutterperl is president of the New York Branch of the United Synagogue, and Mrs. Samuel Spiegel is president of the New York Branch of the Women’s League. Dr. Jacob Khon is chairman of the Committee on College Students’ Activities.
