The number of sexual harassment complaints filed in the Israeli army rose last year by 43 percent, according to the head of the Israel Defense Force’s Women’s Corps. Brig. Gen. Orit Adeto told a Knesset committee that 23 sexual harassment charges were filed in 1998, compared to 15 the previous year. According to the chief army prosecutor, about half of the instances of sexual harassment in the army involve commanders.
