The Orthodox Union denounced Sen. Edward Kennedy for his opposition to a Bush administration proposal to use hurricane relief money for parochial schools. The administration has proposed giving public schools upended by Hurricane Katrina $1.86 billion, while another $488 million would go to families whose children attend private and parochial schools. But Kennedy, the influential Massachusetts Democrat, dismissed the idea as an end-run around congressional opposition to President Bush’s school vouchers program.
