The Palestinian Authority prime minister told Jewish leaders that he is not ready to take control of the Gaza Strip. Speaking to visiting leaders from the Israel Policy Forum this week, Mahmoud Abbas said he needs a stronger security infrastructure before he can fight terrorism in the Gaza Strip. Judith Stern Peck, IPF’s president, said she believes Abbas’ comments were “sincere,” and said Abbas gave the impression that when he does take over responsibility for Gaza he will work diligently to prevent violence.
